In our lab, Irradiation of diamonds is done by bombarding a stream of electrons in an accelerator to alter the crystallographic structure of the diamond. This produces permanent irreversible changes in the color of the diamond.
The color is dependent on the intrinsic properties of the diamond crystal. In general, we can process any diamond to hues of blue, yellow, green, orange and red . For best results, we recommend brownish stones to be processed blue, green or orange and cape stones to be processed yellow or green. White stones can be processed for any of the colors. The electron accelerator used for irradiation generates high energy electron. However, the energy is an order 10 times less than the minimum energy required to produce any residual radiation. The diamonds proccessed in our lab are irradiated inherently safe and do not require any testing, certification of licensing.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requires licensed distribution of any gemstone if it has had residual radiation during its production. Since the diamonds irradiated at our lab have NO residual radiation NRC Licensed distribution is not necessary. However, if needed, we provide seemless service of NRC Licensed distribution with our eclusive agreement with Ideal Source Quality Assurance (ISQA).
The HPHT Process can transform certain types (IIa) of brownish diamonds to white or near white color. Other diamonds (Type Ia) can be transformed to greenish, yellowish, or yellowish orange colored diamonds. Although this process can create beautiful colors, it may results in frosting of diamond surface that requires a re-polish and may also result in marginal weight loss and clarity degradation. Plasma Deposition process deploys plasma in vacuum to deposit a microscopic colored layer of composite diamond like hard microscopic thin film on the pavilion of natural diamond. This treatment produces stable colors in the diamond which is hihly durable under normal wear and tear. The process is reversible.
This process is particularly popural for those colors that cannot be or are difficult to produce using the Irradiation Process. Pink, Purple, Violet, Red and Orange are most requested colors for this process. Blue, Green and Yellow colors are also possible.
